The Sydney University Madrigal Society (MADS) is a small, student-directed a capella choir focusing on madrigals, secular music from the Renaissance era. Founded in 1999 as four students singing around a piano, the society has since grown into a chamber choir singing madrigals from all around pre-Baroque Europe. MADS has also performed many times in collaborations with other musical ensembles, such as Musica Antiqua Sydney, the Sydney University Musical Society and the Sydney University Symphony Orchestra. Whatever language MADS sings in, be it English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Basque or even Hebrew, you can be sure it’s “definitely” a bird they’re singing about!
